Shaun Edward Burgess was born at Ipswich in 1968, second child of Edward James William Burgess (1936-) and his wife Gillian E. née Chisnall, who married at Ipswich in 1961. Shaun married at Ipswich in 1997, Hayley Jane Everett and has three children. A self-taught artist and works from a studio at the bottom of the garden in his Ipswich home and is a member of Suffolk Open Studios. Shaun works in oils where his natural tendency towards realism and order is offset with an urge to create contradiction via abstract marks and colour. A member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and although best known for his horse paintings, Shaun covers a wide range of subject matter from beautifully vibrant animal paintings to portraiture and figurative work. A member of the Suffolk Art Society and of the Ipswich Art Society, and his works are sold online and physical galleries including the Apex Gallery, Bury St Edmund's which has led to works being sold to collectors in the UK, Europe, America, and Australia. He signs his pictures 'S Burgess'.
