1784 - 1825

George Johnson was born at Sudbury, Suffolk on 13 December 1784 and baptised at the Great Meeting House, Friar Street, Sudbury on 10 May 1785, son of George Johnson (1758-10 January 1819), a plumber & glazier, and his wife Susannah. He married at Sudbury on 7 March 1809, a Miss Bell of Sudbury. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1819, five works. 'Creditors of George Johnson, formerly of Sudbury and later of Stratford, Essex, artist, an insolvent debtor, lately discharged from King's Bench Prison are requested to meet...25 May 1823'.'George Johnson of Sudbury, artist, died yesterday week [28 January 1825] at Sudbury' aged 40.
