LEFTWICH, George Robert
George Robert Leftwich was born on 15 September 1846 and baptised at Westminster, London on 23 November 1846, son of George Leftwich (11 June 1810-2 February 1885) and his wife Mary née Spencer, (c1820-31 July 1885), who married at Bloomsbury, London on 1 July 1839. In 1861, George was a 14-year-old, living at 4 Tufnell Park, Islington, London with his 50-year-old father George, an ice merchant, and 41-year-old mother Mary, and siblings Ralph Winnington 12, Mary Maude 10, Ralph Wilbraham 8, Alice Marion 6, Charles Harcourt 4 and newly born Amy Gertrude and Frank Vernon, a 17-year-old elder brother William was absent. In 1871, they were living at Bloomfield Villas, Carleton Road, Islington, London when George was a 24-year-old art student and figure painter, and they were still there ten years later when young George is described as an 'artist'. By 1891, George was a 44 year old married artist, living at Boston Lane, Hanwell, Brentford, Middlesex with a 32 year old wife Emily Ethel née Dimmick, who was born at Frome, Somerset and their two children Marjory Ethel 3, born at Carshalton and Nigel George 1, born at Richmond, Surrey. In 1901, a 54-year-old 'artist figure painter', living at Rosebank, Cherry Hinton, Newmarket, Suffolk with wife Emily and four more children Dorothy Emily 9 and Sybil Adela 7, both born at Uxbridge, with Alice Louise 5 and Spencer Dymock 1 both born in Cambridgeshire. George Robert Leftwich died at The Priory, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire on 25 February 1929.
