DRAPER, William

1798 - 1825

William Draper was baptised at St Gregory's Church, Sudbury, Suffolk on 4 January 1798, son of Stephen Draper and his wife Sarah née Deeks. A self-taught artist and the 'Suffolk Chronicle' of 4 November 1820 offers a mezzotint print of his work 'The Peep Show' and that a print is to be made of his 'The Badger Hunt'. In 1821 it was noted that he had the patronage of 'a local gentleman' when his pencil drawing 'Guy Faux in Effigy' was displayed. William Draper was buried at St Gregory's Church on 26 May 1825.
