COSTERTON, Florence Caroline
Florence Caroline Costerton was born at Eye, Suffolk in 1866 and baptised at Eye on 25 April 1866, daughter of Charles Fisher Costerton (baptised 28 January 1822-1 March 1891), a magistrate and flax manufacturer, and his wife Harriet Nayler (c.1828-1912), eldest daughter of the late John Nayler of Eye, who married at Eye on 15 February 1849. In 1871, Florence was a 5-year-old, living at Scole House, Ipswich Road, Scole, Norfolk with her parents, 49-year-old Charles, who was born at Southtown, then in Suffolk, and 49 [sic] year old Harriet, with siblings Isabel Louisa 17, Ada Mary 13, Clement Fisher (22 December 1858-2 July 1930), Edward 8 and Helena Gertrude 6, all born at Eye. Florence had other siblings including Charles Ernest, born 1851, Alfred 1857, Julia Kathleen 1872, and Nora Margarite 1876. In 1901 Florence had a solo exhibition of her fans and miniature painting in the Boulevard Montparnasse, Paris. In 1906, a 39-year-old artist, when admitted as a patient at the Bethlem Hospital, London. Florence Caroline Costerton committed suicide by drowning in a pond at her sister's house at Daws Hall, Lamarsh, Essex on 27/28 June 1915, she was unmarried. Sometime her first names were reversed i.e. Caroline Florence.
