HOLMAN, George Alfred

1911 - 1980

George Alfred Holman was born at 56 Argyle Road, Edmonton, London on 13 June 1911, son of Charles Holman (6 April 1879-1959), a bulb washer, and his wife Eliza Susannah née Kilbourn (21 June 1880-10 November 1975) who married at West Ham, Essex in early 1906. George studied at Hackney School of Art 1925–1927 and at Hornsey College of Art 1927–1934 under the sculptor Harold Youngman (1886–1968). In 1939 the Holman's were living at 22 Park Drive, Southgate, Middlesex when George was a sculptor, jeweller and they had living with them his unmarried sibling Ivy Eliza Holman (10 December 1906-1995), he had another short-lived brother Leonard Charles Holman (1908-1909). In 1942 George was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and was a Member of the council of Royal Society of British Sculptors 1946-1949. George Alfred Holman died at 250 Highlands Boulevard, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex on 4 January 1980.
