John Chipperfield, was educated at a boarding school and was a student at the Ipswich School of Art 1961-1964 working with Bernard Reynolds [q.v.] in pottery and sculpture. He was also a painter in watercolour and progressed to St Martin's School of Art in London, before returning to Ipswich teaching in ceramics at the Ipswich School of Art. He is also a and associate lecturer in Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London and a founder member of the Suffolk Craft Society. A versatile ceramist he uses a wide range of forming processes to produce vessels including strongly asymmetrical jug forms and shallow dishes, all of which are vehicles for dramatic surface designs using coloured glazes. John Chipperfield and his wife Penelope lived at The Pottery, Brockdish on the Suffolk/Norfolk border.
