DRAPER, Seth

1977 - ?

Seth Thomas Draper was born in the Waveney district of Suffolk in 1977, son of Peter N. Draper and his wife Gillian Mary Draper née Parr, who married at Lothingland, Suffolk in 1971. Seth grew up on the East Anglian coast and spent many happy days taking in the delights of the seaside, from crabbing at Walberswick to trawling the local beaches for shells, that elusive piece of amber or a fossil. He studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University and continued his beachcombing, developing a love for the bits of driftwood with flaky paint with gorgeous rusty patina that washed up on the rocky Welsh coastline. Whilst at University he started to make playful ceramic boats, since when he has developed his technique, combining the shapes he initially started making in ceramic, with the beautiful found objects and recycled tin cans. Seth makes coastal inspired artwork using a mixture of recycled baked bean tins, driftwood, and other bits of miscellaneous items he finds along the shoreline. He exhibits at Southwold Gallery, Suffolk; The Giggly Goat, 20 Lower Goat Lane, Norwich; The Hare and the Hen, 11 Dalegate Market Main Road, Burnham Deepdale, King's Lynn, Norfolk and elsewhere. He now works out of Newport, Gwent in Wales.
