KNIGHT, Edwin Caleb Wardle
Edwin Caleb Wardle Knight was born at 40 Vauxhall Road, Gloucester on 11 June 1906, youngest of two sons of Richard Knight (1855-24 December 1932), a boiler maker, and his wife Alice Agnes née Wardle (13 July 1867-24 November 1953), who married at Gloucester in 1897. In 1911, Edwin was a 4-year-old, living at 40 Vauxhall Road, Gloucester with his parents 55-year-old Richard and 43-year-old Alice, and his sibling brother Leslie Richard 10. Edwin was educated at Tatterford, Norfolk and Knutsford, Cheshire and studied at Lichfield Theological College and in 1930 ordained at St Paul's Cathedral to the curacy of St John the Evangelist in Fitzroy Square, London. Edwin was granted a temporary commission as chaplain 4th class to the Forces which he took up on 15 September 1933 being promoted 3rd class on 17 February 1948 and 2nd class on 1 June 1952. As Revd Edwin Knight, he exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from St Albans Guest House, Oxford Road, Colchester, Essex in 1937, a watercolour 'Jerry, 5th Bn. Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards'. Edwin married in Surrey Northeast in 1945, Vera Joyce Coles (9 March 1914-16 April 2004) and Edwin Knight was chaplain at the Royal Hospital School, Chelsea 1954-1958. Edwin Caleb Wardle Knight died at 88 Hall Street, Briston, Melton Constable, Norfolk on 5 August 1982 and he and his wife were buried at St Mary's Church, Chiddingfold, Surrey.
