Patricia Livingstone was born in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire on 19 March 1921, daughter of Robert Livingstone, a carpenter shipyard labourer, and his wife Martha née Chapman, who married at Barrow-in-Furness in 1906. As a 13-year-old, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1935 from 42 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich, a watercolour 'Early Spring Morning'. 1933-1938 this address was the home of Arthur Cauldwell. In 1939, a probationer nurse at High Carley Sanatorium, High Carley, Ulverston, Lancashire. She married at Barrow-in-Furness in 1942, Major Beresford (born 13 January 1917) and they lived at 33 Anchor Road, Barrow-in-Furness. In 1954 Patricia Beresford and her 37-year-old husband Major, a machinist, emigrated to Canada.
