WILKES, Kathleen Barbara
Kathleen Barbara Wilkes was born at Linden House, 39 Ipswich Road, Stowmarket, Suffolk on 28 February 1913, second daughter of Henry Edwin Wilkes (1869-15 February 1935), a solicitor, whose family had moved from Devon to Stowmarket by 1891, and his wife Kathleen Roberta Bate (21 May 1879-25 January 1955), elder daughter of Major Joseph James Bate, who married at the Church of St Alban the Martyr, Bedford Park, London on 15 November 1906. In 1911 Henry and his family were living at Linden House, Stowmarket with their then only daughter Leslie Hamilton Wilkes [Shirlaw] 3. Kathleen was known as Barbara, to avoid confusion with her mother, and as Miss B. K. Wilkes, exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Linden House, Stowmarket in 1933, one painting 'A Farm near Stowmarket'. As Barbara Kathleen Wilkes, she died at Camden, London on 24 November 1998, she was unmarried.
