FRANKS, Maurice Cardinall

1883 - 1972

Maurice Cardinall Franks was born at Orford Street, Ipswich on 25 May 1883 and baptised at St Matthew's Church, Ipswich on 9 August 1883, son of James Maurice Franks (18 August 1854-6 April 1941), an army captain, and his wife Lucy Ann née Cardinall (1855-2 February 1909). Maurice was educated at Bedford Grammar School and in 1901, a 17-year-old banker's apprentice, living at Bellemere Road, Hampton-in-Arden, Warwickshire with his parents, 46-year-old James and 45-year-old Lucy, with his sibling sister Irene Edith Alice (1888-1968), who was born Los Angeles, USA. In 1914, he enlisted in the Royal Navy and was a paymaster Lt. Commander in 1923. He married at Kensington London in 1922, Marion Gillian Melhuish (2 January 1893-22 July 1952) and in 1939, was a bank official, living at 23 Lingfield Road, Wimbledon, London with his wife Marion. Maurice exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from High Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1933, two works 'Flower Piece' and 'Portrait'. Maurice Cardinall Franks died at 13 White Ladies Close, Emsworth, Havant, Hampshire on 8 October 1972.
