Newmarket Decorative and Fine Arts Society was founded in 1968 to promote and advance aesthetic education, to cultivate the appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts and by giving aid to the conservation of national artistic heritage. Now the Arts Society Newmarket it is affiliated to The National Association of The Arts. The society’s year runs from October to the following July with nine lectures. These are held on the first Monday of the month except when a bank holiday postpones the lecture to the following week. Days of Special Interest also take place in which subjects are studied in greater depth. Speakers are all experts in their specialist fields, and they Society organises outings to historical and cultural venues and an annual 4–5-day home or overseas tour. Newmarket DFAS has a membership of around 200 and welcomes new members and guests may join for individual lectures.
