MATHEW, James
James Mathew was born around 1774, son of James (1773-1805) and Mary (1738-1818) Mathew of Bury St Edmund's. Young James is recorded on an etching of the interior of St Mary’s church, Bury St Edmund’s which was published 1st December 1810 by James Mathew but with no address. A series of ten views in and around Bury St Edmund’s ‘Drawn on stone by J. Mathew 1825’ (and 1826) with Plate 10 ‘View in the Church Yard, Bury St Edmund’s’ being imprinted ‘On stone, and printed by J. Mathew, Bury St Edmund’s'. James Mathew died on 4 August 1829 and was buried in a vault inside St Mary's church, Bury St Edmund’s on 11 August 1829, aged 55.
