MASON, Edith
Edith Mason was born at Fore Street, Ipswich on 8 December 1863 and baptised at Holy Trinity, Ipswich on 12 January 1864, third daughter of William Mason (1815-26 June 1882), a pawnbroker, and his wife Maria née Adams (c1822-23 September 1893), who married at St George's Hanover Square, London in 1850. In 1871, Edith was a 7-year-old, living at Cauldwell Hall, Spring Road, Ipswich with her parents, 56-year-old William, who was born at Norwich and 48-year-old Maria, who was born at Ipswich with two siblings, Clara 16 and Alice 10, both born at Ipswich. Edith studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 awarded her certificate in freehand drawing. She married at Ipswich in 1887, Scottish born John Nisbet (1853-29 November 1914), of the Indian Forest Service, and in 1901 was a visitor at 37 Lime Hill Road, Tunbridge Wells with her 47-year-old husband John and in 1921 was a widow living at St Marys Lodge, Carlton Hill, Exmouth, Devon. In 1939, a widow on private means, living at the Fortfield Hotel, Sidmouth, Devon. Edith Nisbet died at Summers Hotel, Exmouth, Devon on 30 April 1958, aged 94.
