ROOFE, Lilian Agnes
Lilian Agnes Roofe was born at St Stephens Street, Norwich, Norfolk in 1865, eldest of the four daughters and two sons, of James Henry Roofe (1840-22 January 1931), a provision merchant, and his wife Celia Harriet née Rouse (1842-1921), who married at Norwich in 1864. In 1871 her father kept a grocer's shop in St Stephen's Street, Norwich but shortly afterwards moved to 15 Wherstead Road, Ipswich where he was a town councillor. Lilian studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 being awarded her certificate in freehand drawing. In 1881, a 15-year-old scholar, living at 15 Wherstead Road, Ipswich with her parents, James 40 and Celia 38, with two siblings, Alice 13 and Rosina 11, both born in Norwich. By 1891 her father was a grocer at High Street, Mistley, Essex and in 1901 were back in Norwich at 213 Unthank Road, Eaton. In 1919 the family moved to 48 Kirkley Cliff Road, Kirkley, Lowestoft, Suffolk where both her parents died. Lilian Agnes Roofe died at 48 Kirkley Cliff Road, Lowestoft on 28 March 1932 and buried in Kirkley Cemetery, Lowestoft three days later, she was unmarried.
