SETTERFIELD, Clara Stannard
Clara Stannard Setterfield was born at Falcon Street, Ipswich on 1 November 1861, but was not baptised until 13 April 1873, eldest daughter of Henry Setterfield (1820-27 February 1894), a pork butcher, and his wife Mary née Stannard (1831-24 February 1912), who married at Clerkenwell, London in 1863. Clara was educated at St Matthew's School in Ipswich and studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing. In 1881, a 19-year-old pupil teacher, living at 14 Falcon Street, Ipswich with her parents, 60-year-old Henry and 50-year-old Mary, with five siblings, Maude 17, Ada 15, Harold 13, William 10 and Charles 8, all born at Ipswich. In November 1881 she passed her Queen's Scholarship Examinations for teacher training at Whiteland College, Roehampton. Clara married at St Nicholas Church, Ipswich on 23 October 1890, John Robert Staples (1862-1931), a plumber & house decorator of East Barnet, Hertfordshire and in 1911 they were living at 1 Potters Road, Barnet Vale, Middlesex. Clara Stannard Staples died at 97 Ridgeview Road, Whetstone, Middlesex on 12 April 1942, they had no issue.
