THURMAN, Kate

1864 - 1941

Kate Thurman was born at Walton-cum-Felixstowe, Suffolk on 2 January 1864, daughter of David Thurman (9 March 1828-22 March 1893), a builder, and his wife Martha née Brett (20 February 1831-2 October 1909), who married at Ipswich on 18 April 1853. Kate studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 gained her certificate in freehand drawing. In 1881, Kate was a 17-year-old board schoolteacher, living at High Street, Walton, Felixstowe with her parents, David 53 and Martha 51, with three siblings, Maria 22, Frederick 12 and Martha 8, all born at Walton. In 1891, an ironmonger's assistant, living at home, and in 1901 a lodging housekeeper at 2 Granville Villas, Felixstowe with one lodger, 22-year-old Thomas Francis, a builder's manager. In 1939, she was living at Overton, 83 Queen's Road, Felixstowe with her unmarried sister Maria (1859-1951) and where Kate Thurman died on 6 September 1941, she was unmarried.
