TURNER, Mary Isabella

1856 - 1938

Mary Isabella Turner, was born at Cotton Rectory, Stowmarket, Suffolk and baptised on 25 October 1856, only child of Revd Michael Cotton (1817-1903), rector of Cotton, and his wife Mary Anne Carlyon, daughter of Revd Philip Carlyon and Mary née Phear, who marred at St Austell, Cornwall in 1855. Mary studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1880 awarded her certificate of excellence in freehand model drawing. In 1881, a 24 year old, living at Cotton Rectory with her 63 year old widowed father and her 56 year old father's sister Isaballa. She married, as his second wife, at Cotton on 29 June 1890, Revd Thomas Holt Wilson (1844-1919), rector of Redgrave, Suffolk. In 1901, a 41 year old, living at Redgrave, Suffolk with her 57 year old husband Thomas Holt, with their five children, Michael Carlyon 8, Amos Nelson W. 7, Algernon Charles Winstanley 5, Joyce Philippa 3 and Rachel E. H. 1, all born at Redgrave. Mary was of Lyngarth, Oxshott, Surrey when she died at at the Girls Friendly Society Home of Rest, Hanley Terrace, Malvern Wells, Worcestershire on 7 September 1938.
