SEARLE, Tony

Anthony Michael Searle was born at Southend-on-Sea, Essex in 1979, son of Anthony Michael Searle (born 1948) and his wife Monica M. Kendall, who married in the Samford district of Suffolk in 1972. Young Tony studied printmaking and painting at Southend School of Art. He is interested in Greek and Roman art and history which is reflected in several of his prints with both classical and modern architectural subjects also a source of inspiration. He combines differing media such as dry point and collagraph, sometimes using two or more plates making contrasts of colour, line, and texture by either printing dry point over collagraph. The methods that he uses are etching, dry point, mezzotint, collagraph, relief printing, viscosity printing and combinations of dry point and collagraph. A member of the Gainsborough's House Print Workshop at Sudbury, Suffolk where he runs printmaking courses. He is currently combining photography and silk screen printing using his own photographs, cut out stencils and photographic images. A member of the Twelve Printmakers 12PM Group and has exhibited at the Edmund Gallery in Bury St Edmund's and the 'Visions of Sudbury' at St Peter's Church, Sudbury.
