PALMER, Arthur George
Arthur George Palmer was born at Ipswich on 18 September 1865, eldest child of Arthur Palmer (1842-28 October 1925), a metal fitter, and his wife Esther née Willoughby (1844-1915), who married at Ipswich in 1864. In 1881, a 15-year-old engineer's apprentice, living at 6 Dean's Terrace, Felixstowe Road, Ipswich with his parents, Arthur 38 and Esther 36, with five siblings Frederick M. 14, Robert Charles 12, Esther 6, Albert John 4 and Florence Sarah 1, all born at Ipswich. Arthur studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art and in 1880 gained a certificate in freehand drawing and in 1884 winning fourth prize for his 'Italian Painters' in the freehand model drawing class. He married at Ipswich in 1889, Sarah Ann Pennick (27 January 1863-1946) and in 1901, a 35-year-old pattern maker, living at Coggeshall Road, Braintree, Essex with his 37-year-old wife Sarah Ann, and their three children, Frank Charles 10, Herbert Arthur 8 and May 5, all born in Braintree. Arthur George Palmer died at Ley Villa, 213 Cressing Road, Braintree on 7 November 1941.
