LOWDEN, Walter Avis
Walter Avis Lowden was born at 3 Friars Street, Ipswich in 1866 and baptised at St Nicholas Church, Ipswich on 12 November 1866, son of Henry Lowden (1819-17 January 1871), a county court bailiff, and his wife Sarah Ann née Avis (1837-1911), who married at Ipswich in 1854. Walter studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art and in 1880 gained his certificate in freehand drawing and was still gaining awards in 1886. In 1881, a 15-year-old, living at 4 Edgar Street, Ipswich with his 44-year-old widowed mother Sarah Ann, a clerk of the county court, and his siblings Alice 23 and Sarah Ann 13, both born at Ipswich. He married at Turret Green Chapel, Ipswich on 26 November 1889, Emma Sophia Jane Clarke (1863-1 November 1918), eldest daughter of William Revett Clarke of Ipswich, a printer compositor. In 1891, Walter was a 25-year-old engineering draughtsman, living at 54 Spring Road, Ipswich with his 27-year-old wife Emma, born at Ipswich. By 1901 they had moved to 212 Northumberland Park, Tottenham, London now with three children, Wilfred Percy 8, who was born at Ipswich and Mabel 6 and Herbert Walter 3, both born at Woodbridge, Suffolk, they had a further son Cyril Dalliston, born at Tottenham in 1903 and a daughter Grace Kathleen who died in 1911, aged 3 months. In 1911 they were living at Grasmere, Empress Avenue, Woodford Green, Essex, and his wife died at St Ives, Kings Avenue, Woodford Green on 1 November 1918. Walter Avis Lowden died at 66 Mayfield Avenue, West Ealing, Middlesex on 22 November 1931.
