GARRARD, Walter

1858 - 1932

Walter Garrard was born at Ipswich in 1858, son of Ephriam Garrard (1831-16 August 1906), a carpenter & joiner, and his wife Agnes née Humphry (1834-1909), who married at Brantham, Suffolk on 26 December 1856. Walter studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1874 passed his freehand drawing examinations and in 1880 passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing. In 1881, a 23-year-old railway engineer fitter, living at Tyler Street, Ipswich with his parents, Ephriam 47 and Agnes 45, and a younger sibling Ambrose William 7. He married at Ipswich in 1882, Elizabeth Sayer (1855-1922) and in 1911, a 53-year-old, loco running shed foreman, living at 6 Wherstead Road, Ipswich with his 55-year-old wife Elizabeth and three children, Walter Reuben 24, Vida Mahala 20 and Gladys Esther 15. Walter Garrard died at 6 Wherstead Road, Ipswich on 29 February 1932.
