CATCHPOLE, Edward Clarke
Edward Clarke Catchpole was born at Ipswich on 19 March 1865, third child and eldest son of Edgar Catchpole (1839-19 July 1920), a builder, and his wife Sarah née Clarke (1840-31 October 1913), who married at Ipswich in 1861. In 1881, Edward was a 16-year-old carpenter, living at 149 Princes Street, Ipswich with his parents, Edgar 42 and Sarah 40, with ten siblings. Edward was educated at St Matthew's Voluntary Controlled Primary School, Ipswich and studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art from where in 1880, he gained a certificate in freehand drawing. He married at Debenham, Suffolk in 1888, Fanny Maria Gooding (8 May 1867-29 February 1956) and in 1901, a 36-year-old builder, living at 181 Princes Street, Ipswich with his 33-year-old wife Fanny and three children, Edgar Gooding 12, Ida Eveline 10 and Edith Winifred 8, all born at Ipswich. Edward died at Hereford House, Westerfield Road, Ipswich on 2 January 1939, aged 63, being survived by his wife and children.
