BEART, Kate Emily
Kate Emily Beart was born at 2 Carr Street, Ipswich on 28 November 1862 and baptised at Ipswich on 23 September 1863, eldest daughter of James Beart (1826-3 January 1908), draper, and his wife Susanna[h] née Kingsbury (1835-26 May 1898), who married at Alresford, Essex on 3 February 1859. In 1881, Kate was an 18-year-old, living at Waterloo House, Cornhill, Ipswich with her parents, 54-year-old James and 45-year-old Susannah, with siblings Frank William 20, Ernest James 16 and Arthur Henry 14, all born at Ipswich. Kate studied at the Ipswich School of Science & Art, and in 1880 awarded her certificate in freehand drawing. On 31 October 1888, Kate married at Walton-cum-Felixstowe, Suffolk, Harry Adrian Schlesinger (1859-2 November 1936), a drug & general merchant, and in 1891, they were living at Carigie Sea, Coventry Road, Ilford, Essex with a son Adrian, born at Hornsey on 5 August 1889. Harry seems also to have been a Territorial Officer in the Londonderry Artillery in 1903, a commission that he resigned. They were living at 29 East Bank, Stamford Hill, North London 1909-1915 and in October 1914 Adrian, Emily, and their youngest daughter Elsie Kathleen, being under the age of 21, changed the family name to Burgess. Kate Emily Burgess died at South Cottage, Kemsing, Kent on 28 July 1944 they had three children.
