Ronald Hemp was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1927, son of Edward Hemp (1893-16 January 1971) and his wife Ada Ella née Sharman (9 September 1893-1988), who married at Lowestoft in 1915 and in 1939 were living at 5 Walmer Road, Lowestoft. Ronald married at Lowestoft in 1949, Megan E. Edmonds. Ronald started drawing when he was eight years old and worked for an electrical group in Great Yarmouth for some 22 years and then travelled the world as a director of human resources for a Texan offshore drilling company. He then returned to his hometown and was an artist who donated from 'Tamarisk', 86 Stradbroke Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk at the Westhall Secret Postcard Auction in 2013, a black paint & chalk 'Santorini'. He has created numerous large pieces of art over the years raising funds for Help for Heroes and St Peter’s Church in Carlton Colville and in 2020, 93-year-old Ron Hemp, of Pakefield, Lowestoft auctioned off paintings to raise funds for the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston. By December 2024 he had raised some £10,000 from sales of his works which he donated to charity.
