WATSON, John Bernard
John Bernard Watson was born at Upper Rushton Road, Bradford, Yorkshire on 5 March 1924, son of Arnold Frederick Watson (14 June 1888-1978) and his wife Ellen née FitzGerald (10 December 1886-9 December 1958), who married at Lambeth, London in 1917. By 1939, they were living at 80 Irvine Road, Colchester, Essex when John was 'at school' and his father was a 'charge engineer electric power station'. John was educated at Colchester Royal Grammar School and studied at Ipswich School of Art but was mostly a self-taught artist. A free-lance fine and commercial artist in pen, pen & wash, watercolour, crayon and worked on small sculpture in plaster and metal. He exhibited at Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich and Truro, Cornwall. John Bernard Watson lived at 33 Queen Street, Colchester, Essex where he died in 1993.
His date of birth is given variously as 11 March and 6 November 1924, but his birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1924.
