WATSON, John Bernard

1924 - 1993

John Bernard Watson, was born at Bradford, Yorkshire on 5 March 1924, son of Arnold Frederick Watson (14 June 1888-1978) and his wife Ellen née FitzGerald (10 December 1886-1958), who married at Lambeth, London in 1917. In 1939, they were living at 80 Irvine Road, Colchester, Essex when John was 'at school' and his father as 'charge engineer electric power station'. John was educated at Colchester Royal Grammar School and studied at Ipswich School of Art but was mostly self-taught. A free-lance artist, fine and commercial, in pen, pen & wash, watercolour, crayon and works on small sculpture in plaster and metal. He exhibited at Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich and Truro, Cornwall. He lived at 33 Queen Street, Colchester, Essex and he died at Colchester in 1993.

His date of birth is given variously as 11 March and 6 November 1924, but his birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1924.
