GERRY, Catherine
Catherine Evelyn Jane Gerry was born at Thurso, Caithness, Scotland on 31 March 1883, daughter of James Gerry (born 4 September 1827), a pavement merchant, and his second wife Isabella née Branfoot. Catherine was educated at the Miller Institution, Thurso with her leaving certificate dated 1898 and in 1901, Catherine was a 17-year-old, living at Duncan Street, Thurso with her 74-year-old widowed father, and siblings Isobel 19 and her brothers Ulric 15, Harold 14, James 11 and Howard 8, all born at Thurso. In 1912 a nurse at Newcastle Infirmary and during the First World War a nursing Sister in the Territorial Force Nursing Service and in 1934 she spent some time in Spain. In 1939, living on private means, at 'Pembertons', Love Lane, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk with a servant and an evacuee. She exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1944, two works 'A Nurse' and 'Marie'. Catherine Evelyn Jane Gerry died at Pembertons, Melton on 13 November 1953, she was unmarried with probate granted to her solicitor brother, Ulric Reginald Gerry (1885-1965).
