FORD, Marcus Holley
Marcus Holley Ford was born at Hornchurch, Essex on 12 February 1914, son of Aubrey Cecil Ford (21 February 1888-5 January 1946), a violin teacher, and his wife Christine Marie née Maltby (19 May 1886-11 March 1964), a vocalist, who married at West Ham, Essex in 1913. In 1939, Marcus was an 'advertising canvasser', living with his parents at 25 Park Drive, Hornchurch. A landscape painter, he studied privately and had several exhibitions including solo shows at Frost & Reed, 2-4 King Street, St James', London and was president of the Upminster Art Society and a member of the Wapping Group. He moved to Aldeburgh, Suffolk where he married in 1943, Joyce Christine Welham (5 December 1919-13 October 1993) and painted around Suffolk and Norfolk. Marcus Holley Ford died in the Deben district of Suffolk in 1989.
