HOPSON, Harriet Priscilla
Harriet Priscilla Hopson was baptised at Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire on 13 January 1864, daughter of Edmund Hopson (1819-18 October 1870), an ironmonger, and his wife Harriet Matilda née Evans (1838-23 September 1872), who married at St Saviour Southwark, London in 1862. By 1866 they had moved to Ipswich where Edmund died in 1870, aged 51. In 1871, young Harriet was a 7-year-old, living at Rope Walk, Ipswich with her 34-year-old widowed mother Harriet and two siblings, Edmund Henry (1866-1946) and Frederick William (born 1868), both born in Ipswich, but their mother died in 1872. Young Harriet was awarded a certificate and a prize for her freehand drawing at the Ipswich School of Science & Art in 1880. Harriet Priscilla Hopson died of phthisis [tuberculosis] at 52 Fore Street, Ipswich on 22 May 1882, aged 17, and was buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 25 May 1882.
