UNGLESS, Henry Robert
Henry Robert Ungless was born in London on 17 July 1826 and baptised at All Souls, Marylebone, London on 6 August 1826, son of Robert Carpenter Ungless (10 July 1803-18 July 1840), an innkeeper, and his wife Rosamund. Henry married at Ipswich on 6 September 1847, Mary Anne Jacobs (1827-5 August 1886) and in 1861, a 34-year-old 'photographist', living at Green Man School Yard, Foundation Street, Ipswich with his 34-year-old wife Mary Anne and their five children, Eliza 13, Sarah 11, Harry 8, William 5 and Harriett 1, all born at Ipswich. In 1871, an 'artist', still living at Foundation Street, Ipswich with the addition of two more children Annie 7 and Robert 4. A scene painter at the old theatre in Tacket Street, Ipswich and in 1881 described himself at 'artist in crayons' at the same address and in 1883 he was appointed assistant secretary at the Ipswich Junior Conservative Association. In 1891 a widower and 'club steward' living at the Conservative Club, Church Lane, St Stephen, Ipswich with his daughter Eliza as an assistant. Henry Robert Ungless died at Ipswich on 2 May 1902, aged 75.
