ELLESON, Jonathan Robert
Jonathan Robert Elleson was born at Little Ann Street, Stepney, London on 3 October 1825 and baptised at Cannon Street Road, East London on 18 June 1826, son of Jonathan Elleson, a carpenter, and his wife Susannah. He may have married at St Saviour Southwark in 1848 but as John Robert Elleson, he married at St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, Suffolk on 9 November 1854, Caroline Hammond. In 1871, an 'ornamental & portrait artist' living at Northgate Street, Colchester, Essex with his 36-year-old wife Caroline, who was born at Lowestoft, and their 4-year-old daughter, Caroline Arabella Susanna. In 1881, a 53-year-old artist, now living at Caldwell Hall Road, Ipswich with his 46-year-old wife Caroline and 14-year-old daughter Caroline Arabella Susannah [Moss], who was born at Colchester on 5 April 1866. In 1891, his wife Caroline was a charwoman, living at Short Lane, St Clements, Ipswich with daughter Caroline 25, also a charwoman, and [grand] daughters Alice V. 2 and Florence Rebecca 1, both born at Ipswich when Robert, giving his age as 74, 'artist in oil.' was living at 20 Waterloo Street, Ipswich on his own account. As Robert Elleson, he was buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 9 January 1900, aged 72 (sic).
