KINGDON, James Charter
James Charter Kingdon was born on 27 December 1863 and baptised at St Stephen, Exeter on 17 January 1864, son of Francis Kingdon (1821-30 June 1881), a laboratory assistant, and his wife Elizabeth Caroline née Henderson (c1829-9 April 1916), who married at Exeter on 23 April 1852. By 1871, the family had moved to Camp Street, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire where 7-year-old James was living with his parents, 49-year-old Francis and 42-year-old Elizabeth, with siblings Frank Henderson 11 and Nannie Elizabeth 5. James married at Dartford, Kent in 1908, Alice Hilda née Gobbitt (20 February 1878-14 June 1965), who was born at Bawdsey, Suffolk and they had three children. In 1911, James was a 47-year-old married chemist pharmacist, living at Osmon Villa, Belle Grove, Bexley, Kent with his 82-year-old widowed mother Elizabeth. By 1921, a retired chemist living at Dodds Wood House, Benhall, Suffolk with his wife Alice and a 3-year-old son Douglas Walter (12 February 1918-10 April 1996), who was born at Saxmundham. In 1939, a retired artist, living at The Grove, Rendham, Saxmundham, Suffolk with his wife and daughter Joan Phyllis Kingdon (16 December 1912-3 July 2003), a poultry farmer, who was born at Rendham. James Charter Kingdon died at The Grove, Rendham, on 20 January 1951.
