HAHN, Wilhelm
Wilhelm Hahn was born in Saxonia, Bavaria around 1822, son of Adam Hahn and his wife Mary. In 1861, a 39-year-old artist, historian & portrait painter, a naturalised British subject, and a widower, lodging at Factory Lane, Lowestoft, Suffolk, the home of 49-year-old widow Kezia Knights, a manglewoman, with her two daughters 17-year-old Barbara and 4-year-old Mary Ann, who were all born in Lowestoft. By 1871, Hahn was a 47-year-old artist painter, living at Thornhill Street, Islington, London with a 28-year-old wife Louisa née Sainsbury (c1843-1874), who was born in Norfolk and their 3-year-old daughter Wilhelmina Hahn, who was born in Middlesex. Wilhelm Hahn died at Whitechapel, London in 1883, aged 60.
There is another Anglo/American artist (Carl) Wilhelm Hahn (1829-1887) but he was born at Essen on 7 January 1829 and in November 1865 was a leather bag maker living at Newman Street, Oxford Street, London when declared insolvent, with whom he is conflated.
