REDGRAVE, John (1721-1801)
John Redgrave was born around 1721. A decorator at the Lowestoft Porcelain Works using the mark '2'. John married at Lowestoft on 26 May 1766, Mary Lain (1737-1763) and they had three children Samuel, Mary and John, jun. He married secondly at Oulton, Suffolk on 19 February 1765, Mary Shouldham and they had eight more children, Martha, John, Edmund, Susannah, John and James. Several of his children worked in the Lowestoft Factory with both John and James are also shown to be decorators and the Redgrave's were noted for their style of landscape in a stylised oriental manner, and there are many pieces of porcelain which can be attributed to one or another of the family between 1775 and 1790. John was buried at Lowestoft on 5 December 1801, aged 80.
