AUBREY-FLETCHER, Lady Mary Augusta
As Mary Augusta Chilton, she was born at Areley Kings, Worcestershire on 16 April 1887, eldest child of Revd Robert William Chilton (31 December 1857-7 April 1941) and his wife Margaret Harrison (7 April 1859-20 January 1940), daughter of Charles Harrison, MP for the Borough of Bewley, who married at Areley Kings Church on 24 June 1886. In 1901, Mary was a 13-year-old, living at The Vicarage, Wormingford, Essex with her parents, 43-year-old William and 41-year-old Margaret and 10-year-old sister Margaret, who was born at Mountnessing, Essex. Mary married at the Guards' Chapel, Wellington Barracks on 11 October 1911, Henry Lancelot Aubrey-Fletcher (10 September 1887-1969), who succeeded his father as 6th baronet in 1937, who was a member of Buckinghamshire County Council and appointed High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire in 1925 and, under the pen name of Henry Wade, a noted mystery writer. Lady Fletcher was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1926-1930 exhibiting from Oak Lawn, Eye, Suffolk in 1927, three watercolours 'Mallows', 'Stone Pines Levanto' and 'Delphinium and Escholtzia'. In 1939 she was living at Town Hill Farm, Church Road, Chilton, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with her husband Henry, her parents, and her unmarried sister Margaret Rosalind Chilton (17 July 1890-1972), and they retained three servants. Lady Mary Augusta Aubrey-Fletcher died at Garden Cottage, Chilton, Buckinghamshire on 29 June 1963, aged 76. She had five children, four sons and a daughter.
