SMITH, Philip Charles
Philip Charles Smith was born at Custom House, Plaistow, Essex on 1 November 1878, third son of James Smith, a labourer in an iron works, and his wife Elsie. Philip was originally a house painter, and he married at Poplar, London in 1909, Louisa Maud Nutman (born 5 February 1878) and in 1911, a 32-year-old house painter, living at 40 Lucas Avenue, Upton Park, West Ham, London with his 33-year-old wife Louisa and their newly born daughter Eleanor Emily. In 1939, a ship painter, living at Saint Field, Billericay, Essex with his wife Louise. He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1941, two works 'The Deben, Full Tide' and 'Trees at Martlesham'. Philip Charles Smith died at 29 Shalford Road, Rayne, Essex on 9 July 1976.
