JONES, Ethel Mary

1887 - 1972

As Ethel Mary Wickham, she was born at Dulwich, Surrey on 28 May 1887, eldest child of Frederick Wickham (30 March 1862-15 January 1948), a civil servant, and his wife Emily née Hogg (1861-20 September 1915), who married at Camberwell in 1885. In 1911 Ethel was a 24-year-old student of singing, living at Flat C, Rutland House, 30 Greencroft Gardens, Hampstead, London with her parents 49-year-old Frederick and 49-year-old Emily. Ethel Mary Wickham, married at Hampstead, London on 16 January 1915, Leon John Jones. In 1939, Ethel was living at Cobbolds Mill, Monks Eleigh, Suffolk with her husband, a director of a public company in sweet manufacturing, with their son John (born 19 May 1920). As Mrs Leon Jones, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1941 an oil 'Onions'. On 13 December 1956, when living at Denham Lodge, Weston-under-Wood, Olney, Buckinghamshire she, and her husband departed for Durban, South Africa on the 'Jagersfontein'. Ethel Mary Jones died at Ipswich in 1972.
