COOK, Emily Kenshole
As Emily Kenshole Hosegood, she was born at Wellington, Somerset on 16 February 1877, daughter of farmer Andrew Adams Hosegood (1842-31 July 1927) and his wife Mary Anne née Lake (1847-22 April 1906), who married at West Teignmouth, Devon on 11 July 1865. In 1881, Emily was a 4-year-old, living at Higher Nowers, Wellington with her parents, 38-year-old Andrew, a farmer of 250 acres, and 33-year-old Mary, and her sibling brother, Andrew John 14, who was born at Sandford, Devon. Emily studied at Somerset College of Art at Taunton and under artist John George Snape (1839-1925) at 76 Bampton Street, Minehead, Somerset. As Emily Kenshole Hosgood [sic], she married at Taunton, Devon in 1901, George Cooke [sic]. In 1911, the 33-year-old wife to George Cook (c1864-1920), the district road surveyor for Woodbridge Council, living at Breech House, Grundisburgh, Woodbridge, Suffolk with their four children, Leslie George 8, Reginald Hosegood 7, Mary Joyce 4 and Dennis Babb 1, all born at Grundisburgh but she was a widow in 1921. As Mrs E. K. Cook, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Riverdale, 14 Ipswich Road, Woodbridge in 1927, two oil paintings 'Wallflowers' and 'Crocuses', in 1933 two oils 'Primroses' and 'Anemones', in 1935 from Heathercot, 21 Severn Road, Ipswich 'The Stork Jug' and 'Michaelmas Daisies' and in 1937 two oils 'Rhododendrons' and 'From Butley Wood' and was a regular annual exhibitor. Emily Kenshole Cook was still of 21 Severn Road, Ipswich when she died at Brooke House Nursing Home, Henley Road, Ipswich on 21 December 1942. She signed her work 'E. K. Cook' printed letters.
