LILLEY, Tony
Anthony D. Lilley was born at Little Chesterford, Essex in 1950, son of George D. Lilley and his wife Vera Agnes née Carder (1928-28 May 2012), who married at Saffron Walden, Essex in 1947. In 1964 Tony was introduced to fine art oil painting by his uncle, when he copied painting scenes, some from magazine photos, some from real life in the village and fields around his home. He worked in research and design in electronics but in the late 1990s commenced working on his own creative projects which included photography and he developed into a Stock Photographer and in 2006 was a professional in photography and digital art. Inspired to create real paintings, by 2011 he had returned to full-time painting, firstly with acrylics but later working in a range of media which included mixed-medias, Cobra water mixable oils, Atelier interactive acrylics, pastels, and charcoal. His main interests were in creating imaginary scenes, inspired by stories, music, films and legends with the subject and style of his work ranging from imaginary to more factual places and portraits. Tony was drawn towards creating coastal scenes visiting picturesque shorelines, harbours, lakes, and rivers many of his paintings also feature cats, his favourite animal. He has exhibited in Cambridgeshire at Janes Frames, Histon; Impington Village College Annual Art Exhibitions; Haddenham Galleries; Rheebridge Open Art, Cottenham and was a member of Cambridge Open Studios. In 2015 he moved to Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk where he was a committee member of Bury St Edmund's Art Society and his work was shown in the society's annual exhibitions and the Bury Art Trail.
