AIRY, Annot
Annot Airy was born at Greenwich, London on 9 April 1843 and baptised on 11 July 1843, daughter of [Sir] George Biddell Airy (27 July 1801–2 January 1892), astronomer royal, and his wife Richarda Airy née Smith, who married at Edensor, Derbyshire on 23 March 1830. In 1881, Annot was a 37-year-old, living at The White House, Greenwich with her 79-year-old widowed father and her 44-year-old brother Wilfrid, the father of Anna Airy. Sir George Biddell Airy had purchased a house at Playford, near Ipswich in 1843/4, a property that only left the Airy family on the death of Anna in 1964. Annot exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from the family's Suffolk home at Playford in 1882, a watercolour 'Grapes'. In 1891, Annot was a 47-year-old, still living at the White House, Greenwich with her father and 49-year-old sister Christabel Airy. She was the Miss Airy who is listed separately in the 1882 Ipswich Art Club exhibition of 1882. Annot Airy died at White House, Crooms Hill, Greenwich, Kent on 11 October 1924 and buried in Playford churchyard, she was unmarried.
