BLYTH, Anne Elizabeth Cowper

1854 - 1921

As Anne Elizabeth Cowper Johnson, she was born at Yaxham Rectory, Mitford, Norfolk on 3 February 1854 and baptised on 9 April 1854, daughter of Revd William Cowper Johnson (1813-16 October 1893), rector of Yaxham and a landowner, and his wife Marianne née Patteson (10 January 1812-26 January 1894), who married at Cringleford, Norwich on 24 June 1840. In 1871, Anne was a 17-year-old, living at Yaxham Rectory with her parents, 57-year-old William and 59-year-old Marianne and her four sibling sisters, Catherine 28, Maria 25, Mary 21 and Harriet 14 and they retained four indoor servants. Anne married at Northwold, Norfolk on 27 May 1884, Revd Cecil Frederick Blyth (1852-14 August 1913) who was rector of Clipton, Northamptonshire 1883-1888, then of Wetheringsett 1888-1903 finally that of the Rickinghalls, both in Suffolk. Anne was a serious amateur watercolour artist who instructed her daughter Margaret Ellen Blyth and her friend Violet Grace Moor Hasted, in the art of watercolour painting. In 1911, Anne was the 57-year-old wife of 58-year-old 'clergyman' Cecil Blyth, living at The Rectory, Rickinghall, Suffolk with their 24-year-old daughter, Margaret Ellen and they kept three indoor servants. Her husband Cecil, owing to heart trouble, gave up the rectory of Rickinghall in early 1913 and died in London on 14 August the same year. Anne Elizabeth Cowper Blyth died at Blofield, Norfolk on 15 November 1921, aged 69.
