HARE, George William
George William Hare was born at Sandgate, Kent and baptised at Folkestone, Kent on 6 July 1808, son of John Hare (10 June 1774-) and his wife Sarah née Shrubsole (1780-) who married at Bishopsbourne, Kent on 13 November 1806. At the age of twenty-one, on 7 December 1829 George was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools, as a painter. He married at St Pancras Old Church, London on 10 March 1835, Catherine [Kitty] née Potter. In 1851, a 41-year-old artist, living at Berners Street, Ipswich with his 36-year-old wife Catherine, who was born at Worton, Wiltshire and their children, Sarah 15, who was born at St Pancras, Catherine 11, who was born at Marylebone, both in London, together with his 76-year-old father John, who was born in Lincolnshire. In 1859 George applied for a passport to travel to the USA and sailed the following year for Adams, Illinois. George William Hare died at Quincy, Illinois on 29 September 1866.
