Laina West

As Laina M. Holmes, she was born at Paignton, Devon in 1954, daughter of Donald Percival Holmes (1929-2004) and his wife Rowena M. née Good, who married at Totnes, Devon in 1951. Spending her early years in Cornwall before moving to Yorkshire in 1968, Laina married Brian L. West and paints under the name of Laina West. She lived in Sittingbourne, Kent for some 30 years before moving to Suffolk in July 2009. Laina has been painting and drawing since childhood and gets her inspiration from the countryside, sea and nature creating an impressions of the immense variety of colour and texture of the surroundings. Her landscapes and seascapes are mainly in mixed media and her work includes animal portraits in pastel, pen & ink sketches, pastels, oils and watercolours. She is inspired by the work of contemporary artist Kurt Jackson (born 1961). Laina is a member of Southwold Art Circle and Beccles Society of Artists and exhibits from her studio at Reydon, Southwold and has exhibited at a number of venues including Ferini Gallery, Pakefield; Art House Gallery, Cromer and Picturecraft Gallery, Holt and donated a work to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' in 2012 'Tabby Cat' and the following year a pencil sketch 'Wondering'. www.lainawest.co.uk
