CLARKE, Constance Emily Letitia
As Constance Emily Letitia Owen, she was born at Chelsea, London in 1857, daughter of Thomas Owen and his wife Marie Rebecca née Crause, youngest daughter of Charles Crause of the Royal Marines, who married at St Pancras, London in 1855. Her father died and on 16 August 1860 his widow, Marie Rebecca Owen née Crause married at St James's Piccadilly, London Arthur White and in 1861, Constance was the 3-year-old stepdaughter of 31-year-old Arthur White, a barrister-at-law, and together with his 26-year-old wife Marie, were living at 3 Courteney Place, East Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Devon. In 1881, Constance was a visitor at St Matthews Lodge, Ipswich, the home of 68-year-old Henry Clarke, a retired shoe manufacturer, and his family including his son 25-year-old Henry, known as Harry, a shoe manufacturer, whom 23-year-old Constance married later that year. As Mrs Harry Clarke a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1882-1883 from Crescent Road, Ipswich but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1891, a 33-year-old living at Glasly, Crescent Road, Ipswich with her 35-year-old husband Henry, with two indoor servants. Constance Emily Letitia Clarke was of 13 Pope's Grove, Twickenham, Middlesex when she died at Peckham House, Peckham, Surrey on 11 January 1927.
