SEEKAMP, Frederick

Frederick Seekamp, was born at Ipswich about 1811, son of Frederick Francis Seekamp (1774-1843), cheese, butter, coal and seed merchant, and his first wife Mary née Thurston (1786-1819); Frederick Francis, who was Mayor of Ipswich 1836-1837, married secondly on 13 September 1821, Elizabeth Flowerdew. Young Frederick was a member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832, where he was probably tutored by Henry Davy. In 1841, a 30 year old, living at Lower Brook Street, Ipswich with his 65 year old father Frederick and 50 year old stepmother Elizabeth with his 25 year sibling sister Ellen, they retained two servants. He died in Paris in 1849 and buried in Montmartre Cemetery.
