SEEKAMP, Frederick
Frederick Seekamp was born at Ipswich around 1811, son of Frederick Francis Seekamp (1774-1843), a cheese, butter, coal, and seed merchant, and his first wife Mary née Thurston (1786-1819); Frederick Francis, who was Mayor of Ipswich 1836-1837, married secondly at St Nicholas Church, Ipswich on 13 September 1821, Elizabeth Flowerdew. Young Frederick was a member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832, where he was tutored by Henry Davy. In 1841, a 30-year-old, living at Lower Brook Street, Ipswich with his 65-year-old father Frederick and 50-year-old stepmother Elizabeth with his 25-year-old sibling sister Ellen, they retained two servants. Frederick Seekamp died in Paris in 1849 and buried in Montmartre Cemetery.
