CONDER, John Garwood
John Garwood Conder was born at Ipswich on 23 November 1808, and baptised at Tacket Street Meeting House, Ipswich on 19 February 1809, son of Thomas Conder (1775-3 June 1870), currier, and his wife Hannah née Garwood (1789-13 August 1857), who married at St Nicholas Church, Ipswich on 11 February 1808. John married at St Mary-le-Tower church, Ipswich on 29 March 1831, Elizabeth Everett, daughter of Isaac Everett of Wix Lodge, Manningtree, Essex and their only surviving child, Elizabeth Everett Conder, who was born at Ipswich, died at Great Baddow, Essex on 4 December 1866, aged 32. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1835, where he was tutored by Henry Davy. In 1851, a 42-year-old 'proprietor of houses and interest from mortgages', living at 1 Chalks Retreat, Great Baddow, Essex with his 47-year-old wife Elizabeth and 16-year-old daughter Elizabeth Everett Conder. His wife Elizabeth, died on 17 September 1873 when John married again, at Holborn, London on 10 March 1877, Mrs Maria Richardson. They lived at Hamlet House, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, Essex where John Garwood Conder died on 28 February 1897.
