TILMOUTH, Sheila
Sheila W. Tilmouth was born at Wood Green, Middlesex on 25 September 1949, daughter of Charles Tilmouth and his wife Beryl née Herbert, who married at Edmonton, London in 1945. Sheila was educated at Latymer Grammar School and studied fine art at Hornsey College of Art 1969-1972 and Byam Shaw School of Art 1974-1975. Sheila was awarded a British Council scholarship which allowed her to study at the Finnish Academy in Helsinki for a year in 1973 when she made visits to the Arctic Circle and St Petersburg. She works in fine detail throughout the different mediums of painting, printmaking, and photography, producing finely crafted still life paintings and delicate wood engraved prints. During her 30-year career she has exhibited extensively across England including at the Royal Academy also showing at the Kings Lynn Art Centre and Anna Mei Chadwick Gallery at Parsons Green and has undertaken two residencies supported by The Arts Council England, the first on an Organic farm in Cumbria and the second at Redgrave and Lopham Fen on the Norfolk/Suffolk border where she had a studio. She married in 1977, Michael Roy Exall (10 May 1950-25 November 1996) and was living as a practising artist at 2 Bethel Terrace, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Sheila is an active member of Lime Press printmaking studios and Linden Art Studio and has taught art as a visiting lecturer and run many workshops with adult and community groups. A member of the Suffolk Open Studios in 2013 from Clay Barn, Thrandeston Road, Mellis, Eye, Suffolk.
