CARPENTER, Ellis Loombe William
Ellis Loombe William Carpenter was born at Kings Lynn, Norfolk on 17 June 1928, son of Albert Edward Carpenter (1901-1966) and his wife Daisy Florence Ethel née Cromack (1900-23 February 1974), who married at Kings Lynn in 1923. As a youngster, Ellis was brought up by foster parents at Benton Street, Hadleigh, Suffolk and found himself a 'Saturday Pupil' at the East Anglian School of Painting & Drawing at Benton End. After National Service, in 1948 he returned to Benton End as a student and attended classes until 1954, and again took up his painting at Benton End from early 1960. Ellis married at Sudbury, Suffolk in 1959, Dorothy May Sore (1 August 1920-14 August 2002) and after a career in insurance in London and as a keen painter, he exhibited at Colchester Castle; Minories at Colchester; Bury St Edmund's Art Gallery and the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery in London. A breeder, exhibitor and painter of irises, a hobby that was formed in the gardens of Benton End. Ellis Loombe William Carpenter died at Ipswich on 5 November 2005.
