MEYER-HALL, Val
As Valerie Julia Humphreys, she was born on 21 May 1950 and as Valerie Meyer, she married in the Hartismere district of Suffolk in 1992, Laurence Raymond Hall, and paints under the names of Val Meyer-Hall and Val Hall. Over a period of years Val has tried working in various media including painting, ceramics, sewing and stained glass, but her greatest love is to work with silk fabric. In her twenties, Val learned about Batik-wax resist and dyes on silk or cotton, since when she has worked with this media. Being inspired by nature, animals, birds, plants, flowers and landscapes, naïve medieval pictures, has made many Batiks works, inspired by 15th century manuscript paintings as well as early stained glass. Val had her first solo exhibition in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in 1981 and whilst living in Suffolk, Val had a studio on the farm where she lived and regularly exhibited in local exhibitions. In 2007 she moved to Mellis, near Eye and is a member of Mellis Arts from 25 Lowgate Street, Eye, Suffolk and has been involved in developing the 'Gallery at the Railway Tavern' for Mellis Arts. She is also a book illustrator and works on commissions.
